I first “discovered” Melody Gardot back in February of this year. I don’t remember how I stumbled upon her, to be honest. I think it was on YouTube somehow… in any case, I heard a song and pretty much just dug her whole “vibe.” I loved her voice and her style and her look, just the whole package! Then I heard about her story, which is nothing short of amazing. In a nearly fatal car/bicycle accident (she was on the bike) at age 19… started into music as recovery therapy from that accident. Part of her “look” is because of neurological issues from the accident (always wearing dark shades because of photosensitivity). And now, at age 24, she’s about to hit big time!
The other thing that’s really cool about Melody, is that she’s really (at least for now) accessible! She’s got a blog, she returns emails, she has a flickr photostream… I don’t know how long this will last, but it’s really fantastic when you email someone to let them know you love their music and they email you back almost right away!
Last year’s video is up over 90,000 views now… so I thought I’d take the plunge and do it again. This time I take a bigger bite, it’s filmed in better light, and is all-around, much better… well, except for the pain!
Got cortisone injections in my hips yesterday. Man, you talk about fun! The doctor kept saying “Sorry…” I might be feeling a bit of relief this morning though. Not sure yet because I’m still pretty sore from the shots themselves. He said to give it a couple of days. Anyone else done the ’sone? Dang. He numbed the area first, but that just helps the surface. lol
On a MUCH brighter note, the kitchen remodel is almost all done. Only the trim paint remains to be done. I’ll get some before and after photos together and post them in the next day or so. I actually used it this past weekend to bake some bread and make a yummy dessert!
This is one of the most amazing Flickr sets I’ve seen! These guys launched a Pentax k10d digital SLR below a weather balloon and it went over 20 miles up to the very outer limits of the atmosphere taking photos the whole way.
Just gorgeous!! Kudos to that team at Oklahoma State!
Last night was the 20 year reunion for the Woodmore High School class of 1988 (of which I was a member). It was a great night! I was dreading it a little bit, not because of the people, just because I generally despise social situations like that. But it ended up being really fun! Saw some people I hadn’t seen in years… and some I hadn’t seen in days.
There were 70 in our class, 34 of whom we heard back from and 27 of whom made it to the reunion.
My pictures are up at Flickr, and I’ve asked for other classmates to send me theirs so we can get a comprehensive collection up online.
OK, this is from about 10 years ago I think. It was on video tape and I captured it over to the computer, the sound doesn’t match up part way through, but I don’t think that’s really all that important.
And remember, I played French horn, not trumpet, so excuse the clunkers! lol In fact, I think I traded an early CD burner straight up for this trumpet. hahahah
Well, this Saturday is the 20 year reunion of my high school graduating class. 20 years. Really doesn’t seem like it’s been that long. So many things have changed, and so many things haven’t. It’s just weird.
I’ve been involved in the organization of the reunion to some extent, and it’s been fun to get “sneek peeks” into what other class members are doing now, where they are, who is coming, who isn’t, etc… There were only 70 people in my class and we got responses for the reunion from 34 of them. Not bad.
Looks like myself and 3 others who are attending are still in Elmore (or are in Elmore again, as the case may be) and the farthest distance someone is coming is from Minnesota.
Guess I’ll go dig out my acid washed jeans and get them pegged, put on my Ocean Pacific shirt, find my Members Only jacket and feather my hair… OH, can’t forget the Air Jordans….
We went to the Schedel Arboretum and Gardens yesterday for a couple hours. Took a lot of pictures and enjoyed a beautiful day. Everything there looks fantastic!
