I wrote this in an email tonight… not sure it was appreciated by the recipient (as he’s about 15 years younger than me) but it really made me wax nostalgic for some old-school NBA playoffs.
I stopped watching the NBA playoffs when the Cavs lost. Doc Rivers bores me. Kobe is a male slut. KG is great, but plays for the f-ing Celtics. There’s just no compelling story line in the NBA for me right now. Sure Celtics/Lakers in the finals would be nostalgic, but unless Chief, McHale, the ghost of DJ, Ainge and Bird come out of geriatric retirement and Kurt Rambis revives the horn-rims, it ain’t the same. Damn dude… Worthy, Byron, Magic, Kareem and AC/Rambis… those were amazing times.
Oh… and yes. Kurt Rambis really WAS my hero.
Sometimes you just have to stop and appreciate when things feel GOOD once in a while. This is one of those times.
Lots of good things in my life right now. Sometimes we dwell on the troubles and struggles and look past the good. Not letting that happen!
I’m reading a great book, the new job looks like it’s going to be super, the pregnancy is going well, I’m not driving as much, have lots more time at home… life is good!

That’s all.

I’d been looking for this commercial for (I kid you not) 20 years…

Well, I’ve got 5 days of commuting left. Why is that? I’m leaving Autodesk and going back to work for Glasstech! Autodesk is a great environment in which to work, great people, really SMART people, and a really progressive corporate environment. Parts of me really wish I could stay there. The problem is the commute. It’s 3 hours a day in the car.
We’ve decided that we want to stay put in Elmore for the birth of our child. My mom is close, my grandma is close and we want them around throughout the process. Maryellen’s family isn’t too far away either, so rather than move away and introduce a lot of unknown variables into the equation, we’re going to invest a little bit into our house and stay put.
So, my return to Glasstech (another company I loved working for for 4.5 years or so) will bring back a one-way commute of around 20 minutes. I’d MUCH rather be 20 minutes away as this pregnancy progresses than 90 minutes. AND, being back in NW Ohio will afford me the chance to accompany Maryellen to a lot of her pre-natal appointments, ultrasounds, etc!!
So, I will begin my role as the Quote Coordinator at Glasstech on May 27. It will be a new challenge for me. It will be interesting being there in a different capacity. I’m really excited about the change for a lot of reasons. I plan on NO MORE job changes for a long time!!
In other developments… we ditched Time-Warner Cable/RoadRunner last week in favor of new DSL service from Verizon and satellite TV through DirecTV. The performance is fantastic on both accounts, and we’re saving almost $20 a month!!
Quotes on a kitchen remodel and central air conditioning are pending.
That’ll be nice! Now I’m headed out to clean out the gutters!

Happy Mother’s Day to all moms out there! We had a great little get together at my Grandma Rife’s place. The hi-lite might have been getting my mom to try a habanero stuffed olive! Hillarity ensued! I think, between Uncle Tracy and myself, we pretty much finished off the jar of those little suckers!
Here’s the pics from the day:
And now for something completely different….
Here’s Roodi begging for some spinach veggie dip a couple hours ago. ![]()

Well… if this circle of life thing holds true… I’m at about 11:30 and it’s just about to come around to noon again… (or midnight, as the case may be)
I won’t be commuting much longer.
More to come…

My buddy Tony has had the pleasure of hosting the Meet the Press folks at his WTHR studios in Indianapolis in the run-up to the Indy primary on Tuesday. He got himself published on MSNBC too!!
Watch Meet the Press here in a few minutes and see if you can find any orange and brown on the set.
