Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
Arrived home tonight, opened up my mail and got a $90 speeding ticket from the Northwood enforcement camera. I can see that being effective for red-light (although still not “right”) but for speed??? They had me going 46 in a 35. Personally, I don’t think I would have been going that fast then, I never speed through there… BUT… Here’s my real gripe… had this been an actual officer, and had I TRULY been speeding, I could have spoken to the officer and explained that I was going to the St. Charles emergency room to see my wife who was a patient. I’m sure the officer would have had the compassion to let me off with a friendly warning. The images in the “ticket” I got in the mail show me going through the intersection and there is NO other traffic… so the conditions, even if I was doing a few MPH over, were safe. I just think it’s BS… and I plan to call the Northwood PD tomorrow… even though the ticket was mailed to me from Nevada…. nothing but a money-maker….

Wow. That is beyond shitty.
If they still make you pay the ticket, it’s your civic duty as an American to drive back to the intersection and moon the camera. Oh, and writing “Nevada Sucks!” on the hood of your car might be a nice touch, too.
I second Tony’s motion – that bites!
A few months back in another part of the country, a guy found himself in exactly the same predicament. He decided to take payback “up a notch” and attached a small explosive to the camera to destroy his arch-nemesis. Although he was successful in blowing up the foul money-making device, a flaw in his plan was soon discovered. It seems the camera was recording his every move…
P.S. The random pic of the Jazz Band is priceless…whatever happened to Mary Kay?
Grant,
They use those almost exclusively over here. Most of them are fixed tho, so if you know where they are you can slow down. I think I just got a ticket the other day (at least it flashed at me). Here’s the scenerio for mine:
The speed limit had just changed from 70 to 50 and it was down hill. I was on the brakes but was doing still between 60 and 65…then FLASH…b@stards…and it about 2km from my house….a temporary camera that isn’t usually there….
here’s an interesting podcast I listened to a while back about speed cameras in the UK. Aparently they are getting so bad there that people are trying to destroy them. Don’t let them get that bad in the US! Fight it…
